Lizzo tearfully accepted the Quincy Jones Humanitarian Award on Thursday night from the Black Music Action Coalition, giving her first major public speech since she was hit with a series of accusations and lawsuits about her off-stage behavior. “Thank you so much for this, because I needed this right now,” Lizzo said of the honor, which presented to her by a group of her Big Grrrls and Big Boiiis dancers. “God’s timing is always on time! I didn’t write a speech because I don’t know what to say in times like these.” The ceremony took place just hours after a second lawsuit was filed against Lizzo by a former employee claiming she was subject to a hostile work environment. But Lizzo shurugged off the controversy, vowing to continue her charitable work and “be who I am no matter who's watching.”
