Vic Mensa speaks on gun control and Donald Trump, during CNN interview.
Following the mass shooting in Orlando last weekend, Chicago rapper Vic Mensa was among the most vocal in the Hip Hop community, tweeting his thoughts on the lack of gun control in the United States.
The musician again offered his thoughts on gun control, during a newly-released interview with CNN. He questioned why the Orlando shooter was so easily able to buy a gun despite being on the FBI’s radar.
“The news about the Orlando tragedy, it just made me start thinking about how important it is that we take action in this election,” Vic Mensa said. “So, I started talking about it. And people were trying to shut me down. They’re saying ‘We don’t need gun control. People are gonna be violent. People are gonna be murderers with or without guns.’ I’m not saying that we should go and we should take away people’s guns. I’m not saying we should repeal the second amendment. What I’m saying is that we need to be able to have far more restrictions put on who can purchase guns.”
Mensa also stressed the importance of the upcoming, presidential election. He criticized the hateful rhetoric of Donald Trump, stressing that “hate begets hate.”
“In this election it’s very possible that we’re literally voting to save our lives and the lives of people that we love,” he said, according to CNN. “The hateful messages that Donald Trump is putting out into the world can only bring hate back. Hate begets hate. Violence begets violence.”
